Boguslaw Prince von Radziwill (1809-1873) was a member of the important Polish-Prussian princely house of Radziwill, a Prussian lieutenant general and later a local politician in Berlin. Born in Königsberg (now Kalinigrad), he was baptised in the presence of the entire Prussian court and King Friedrich Wilhelm III. In 1832, Radziwill married Leontyna Gabriela Countess of Clary and Aldringen (1811-1890). The couple, who had eight children together, centred their lives on the large estate of Teplitz in north-west Bohemia, the seat of the Bohemian Clary-Aldringen dynasty. Teplice Castle, its buildings, some of its interiors, the park and its immediate surroundings form a thematic focus in this album. In Prussia, the large landowner Boguslaw Radziwill owned, among other things, the hunting lodge in Antonin, designed by the famous Berlin architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1822-24, whose beautiful interior is shown in a watercolour in the album. Three interior views of the Palais Radziwill in Berlin and three further interior designs of the Palais Clary-Aldringen in Vienna demonstrate the couple's connection to their respective cities and families of origin.
