Rovello, 1865 - Milan, 1906
The Waiting
Signed A Villa bottom left
Oil on canvas, 44X58.5 cm
A refined artist, Aleardo Villa, in his canvases often depicts elegant, sinuous women surrounded by flowers and natural motifs typical of the Art Nouveau style. His technique combines a strong attention to detail and a sophisticated use of colour and flowing lines. He is also skilled in portraying female faces and figures dressed in the fashion of the time. An acclaimed painter, illustrator and advertising artist, he studied under Bertini at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Towards the end of his career, he abandoned painting to devote himself exclusively to advertising graphics: he was an appreciated poster artist at Ricordi in Milan.
