Alessandro Algardi (1598 Bologna - 1654 Rome) after Tondo relief with Rest on the Flight into Egypt Italian relief, probably from the 18th or 19th century, made of white Carrara marble after a well-known transverse octagonal and transverse oval bronze relief by Algardi (examples in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, among others). The composition is one of Alessandro Algardi's most frequently repeated works, versions of which were executed in a wide variety of materials and widely collected. Alongside Bernini, Algardi is considered the main master of Roman Baroque sculpture and created small-format works in particular for execution in bronze. Gilt bronze frame Marble d. 43.5 cm.
