An interesting complete collection of seven letters on the ceremonies of China, in which Noël Alexandre (1639-1724) defended the Dominican missionaries in the "querelle des rites", which pitted them against the Jesuits on the subject of Chinese Confucianism. There is an engraved plate in the 2nd Letter and a fold-out plate showing the Court of Ceremonies known in Chinese as Li-Pou at the head of the Letter to Mme de Lionne. Light spotting at the head of the volume.
