The House of Beurdeley was one of the most important dynasties of 19th-century furniture and objets d'art dealers and manufacturers. They took their art to a level of skill rarely equalled. For three generations, from 1818 to 1895, Jean Beurdeley, Louis-Auguste-Alfred Beurdeley and Alfred-Emmanuel-Louis Beurdeley continued the tradition of excellence of the previous century. They were renowned for the quality of their materials, with chased and gilded bronzes used in particular for the frames. During the Second Empire, Beurdeley supplied the Imperial Furniture Guard of Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie, as well as the great courts of Europe. In 1855 and 1867, it took part in the Universal Exhibitions in Paris and received numerous awards. Their crowning achievement came in 1878 when they were awarded the gold medal. Their activity continued until 1895, when the stock was dispersed at numerous auctions.
