Alfred Schwarz (1867 Berlin - 1950 Saalgau) Portrait of Frederick III, King of Prussia and second German Emperor in 1888 Representative, expressively characterising bust portrait of Frederick III (1831 - 1888) in uniform with order sashes and numerous orders, including the breast star of the Order of the Black Eagle and the order "Pour le Merité", in front of a neutral, dark background, the head slightly turned into profile. The Berlin portrait painter made his debut as early as 1888 at the Academy exhibition, to which he subsequently exhibited several times. The Great Berlin Art Exhibition of 1904 also brought him his final breakthrough as a portraitist - the aristocracy and upper middle classes commissioned his portraits, and from 1906 Schwarz was court painter to Wilhelm II and his family. Oil on canvas; r. o. sign. a. dat. 1888 with location Berlin. 71 cm x 93.5 cm. Frame. The sitter from the House of Hohenzollern was the son of Kaiser Wilhelm I; in the German War of 1866 and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 the crown prince served as a Prussian general, and in the so-called Three Emperors' Year of 1888 he reigned for 99 days as the popular and honoured German Emperor and King of Prussia.
