ALGÉRIE - ALGERIA Third Republic (1870-1940). Pair of silver and bronze medals, Algiers law school, by Alphée Dubois 1906 and 1907 (1879 model), Paris. A woman dressed in antique style, personifying the University, seated cross-legged on a curule chair, holds a quill in her right hand and the open Civil Code in her left, resting on the chair. On her right leg, an unrolled scroll; on the ground, scrolls, books and laurel wreaths. At the bottom of the field, against the edge of the medal, on the right: ALPHÉE DUBOIS. In the exergue, ÉCOLE DE DROIT / D'ALGER. Rv. Attribution in relief. Maz.1906, 40 - Esc. cf. 252 ; Bronze and silver - 45,47 g. - 50.48 g - 45.5 mm - 12 h Attribution on the whole reverse with a corner specially made for these medals. For the bronze "CERTIFICATE OF STUDIES / IN ALGERIAN LEGISLATION / MUSLIM LAW / AND INDIGENOUS COUTUMES / FRENCH CIVIL AND PENAL LAW / 1906 / ABOUCAYA / MARTIN, GASTON / BORN ON 25 MAY 1886 / IN CONSTANTINE / (ALGERIA)". For the silver "CERTIFICATE OF STUDIES / IN ALGERIAN LEGISLATION / MUSLIM LAW / AND INDIGENOUS COUTUMES / MUSLIM LAW / 1907 / ABOUCAYA / MARTIN, GASTON / BORN ON 25 MAY 1886 / IN CONSTANTINE". Hallmarks (horn) and BRONZE or 1ARGENT on the edge. A large stain on the reverse of the bronze, iridescent patina for the silver. Superb. Gaston Martin Aboucaya, born in Constantine in 1886 and died in Nice in 1962, was President of the Tlemcen Bar Association.
