With the French military presence, the Flittas tribe in the south of Oranais revolted in 1864. Repression was severe and the leaders were interned in Corte. During the Emperor's journey in May 1865, as he gazed out over the Mina plain, members of the Flittas tribe surrounded his carriage and begged for the internees to be pardoned, which they were granted.
