Allegory of Justice and Abundance Oil on canvas 70 x 105 cm The painting depicts two half-length female figures, closely juxtaposed in an intense visual dialogue. The figure on the right, identifiable as Justice, can be recognised by the presence of the sword and scales, traditional attributes of her role of judgement and equity. The figure on the left, interpreted as Abundance, is characterised by the presence of elements alluding to prosperity and fertility. The composition is built on a strong physical and psychological proximity between the two figures, who occupy almost the entire pictorial space. The gesture and the gaze create an emotional tension that goes beyond the simple allegorical representation, suggesting a dynamic relationship between the two concepts: justice as the foundation of order and abundance as its consequence. From a stylistic point of view, the work shows typical features of Francesco Ruschi's painting, with a soft rendering of the flesh, a warm palette and a careful use of light that moulds the volumes without dramatic excess. The close construction of the figures and the attention to the emotional dimension refer to a Venetian sensibility that is up-to-date with developments in Baroque painting. The work is part of the trend of allegorical seventeenth-century representations, in which virtues and abstract concepts are translated into human forms, often through a direct relationship between the figures, aimed at rendering the symbolic content more immediate. Within the framework of the 20th century.
