Allegory of a market between characters and acrobats in a world between the oneiric and the caricatural, with sometimes cryptic phrases, A painting of extreme suggestion and beauty, in which truth, fantasy and madness merge. Of the Master of the Fertility of the Egg, the works are known but not, with certainty, the identity. He was active in Brescia between the second half of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century. The identity of the Maestro has not yet been established, although some critics recognise him in the works of Bocchi and Albricci, whose pupil he most probably was, however. All known works by this great artist have a remarkable density of characters placed on several perspective planes. We hypothesise that the 'servitor Tartaglia', in the foreground, is already present in another painting, also by the same Master, today in the Milwaukee Art Museum and we venture that it may be a caricature self-portrait of the same painter or a 17th century avatar. Provenance from the Rangoni family collection. Measurements: 115.5 x 151.5 cm (with frame 136.6 x 172.5 cm)
