Charles-Guillaume-Ferdinand of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1735-1806) was known as Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg and Prince of Wolfenbüttel from 1780 until his death. He is particularly famous as commander-in-chief of the Austro-Prussian army in 1792, both for the famous Brunswick Manifesto (25 July) and for the retreat of his army after the Battle of Valmy (20 September), on the eve of France's proclamation of the Republic.
