By Philipp Heinrich Müller (1654-1719), one of the most famous European medallists of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Born to modest parents, Müller began working for a silversmith in Augsburg. His talent brought him to the attention of Leonardo Weiss, a city councillor, who allowed him to become a medal engraver. He worked for Augsburg and also in Nuremberg for Caspar Gottlieb Laufer, master of the Nuremberg mint, and became known and admired throughout Europe, where he executed portraits of numerous Princes and rulers of his time.
