Alois Schönn (1826 Vienna - 1897 Krumpendorf am Wörthersee) Southern Italian street scene Large-format work, probably created around 1870-1880, with a multi-figured, picturesque depiction of an old farm with its architecture and sheepskins hung out to dry in bright Mediterranean light. This is enlivened by various people, farmers with their donkeys and other animals, children playing, etc. In the course of his artistic life, Schönn successfully devoted himself to battle painting, history and genre scenes as well as vedute, especially Italian and oriental motifs. He studied at the Vienna Academy from 1845 to 1848 and took part in the Italian campaign in 1848. In the following years he undertook numerous study trips, including to Hungary, France, Italy and Galicia, as well as a major journey to the Orient via Greece, Turkey, Syria and Palestine to Egypt. In 1861 Schönn became a member of the Cooperative of Fine Artists of Vienna, in 1866 a member of the Vienna Academy and in 1877 an honorary professor there.
