De sa chevelure finement ciselée, ornée de deux fleurs ouvertes sur les côtés, jaillissent deux lumières frontales. Elles sont fixées à un panneau d'origine en poirier teinté à découpe cintrée. Signée «A.Truffier» et exécutée par M.Gustave-Leblanc Barbedienne fondeur. Vers 1901. Two lights spring out of her finely chiselled hair adorned with open flowers on each side. The lamps are fixed onto the original, curved panel in tinted pear tree wood. (with support) Alphonse Mucha est un artiste tchèque parmi les plus populaires de l'Art nouveau. Il fut propulsé au devant de la scène grâce à sa rencontre avec la grande Sarah Bernhardt. Dès lors, son style devient si célèbre que le style Art nouveau se fait parfois appeler « style Mucha». Indépendamment de ses oeuvres graphiques on connaît moins bien la contribution de Mucha aux arts décoratifs. Pourtant dès l'Exposition Universelle de 1900, Mucha s'intéresse à tous les arts : il s'associe avec le joaillier Georges Fouquet pour créer des bijoux et dessine des meubles et des objets d'arts. Aussi à l'aise dans la création d'une ornementation stylisée que dans la création d'un ornement abstrait, Mucha, dessinateur hors pair, démontra très tôt, tout comme Hector Guimard ou Victor Horta, sa fascination pour le monde végétal et les lignes sinueuses. Une applique du même modèle que la paire que nous vous présentons, néanmoins incomplète a été présentée lors de l'Exposition monographique dédiée à Alphons Mucha à Montpellier, en collaboration avec le Belvédère de Vienne et la Kunsthalle de Munich en 2009. Elles sont le fruit d'une collaboration entre Mucha et Adolphe-Armand Truffier, créateur de modèles, ciseleur et orfèvre qui a réalisé de nombreux vases, cache-pots, lampes, flambeaux et appliques souvent exécutés, comme pour les nôtres, par le célèbre atelier de fondeur M. Gustave-E. Leblanc-Barbedienne à Paris. Alphonse Mucha was Czech and one of the most popular artists of the Art Nouveau period. His career advanced rapidly after meeting the famous Sarah Bernhardt. From then on his style became so wellknown that the Art Nouveau was sometimes called « Style Mucha ». Apart from his graphic work his contribution to decorative arts is less known, although following the Exposition Universelle in 1900, Mucha became interested in all forms of artistic work : he became associated with the jeweller, Georges Fouquet to create jewellery and designed furniture and artistic objects. As he was just as at ease with stylised ornamentation as with the creation of an abstract ornament, Mucha, who was an outstanding designer soon showed, liked Hector Guimard or Victor Horta, his great interest in plant forms and sinuous lines. A similar, although incomplete and only a single model of wall lamp as we are showing was presented during the monographic Exhibition dedicated to Alfonse Mucha in Montpellier, in 2009 with the collaboration of the Belvédère de Vienne and the Kunsthalle de Munich. These pieces are the result of the combined work of Mucha and Adolphe-Armand Truffier who was modelist, chiseller and silversmith and had made many vases, flower pot holders, lamps, torcheres and wall lamps which were often executed, as were ours, by the famous foundry M.Gustave-E.Lebanc - Barbedienne in Paris.
