Manœuvre, Louis Garneray, Arcueil, 1997, reproduced in colour on p. 74). Responding to requests from art lovers, Louis Garneray was able to produce several paintings with the same subject and the same dimensions. Our painting could be one of three exhibited at the 1831, 1836 and 1844 Salons; Salon de 1831, no858, Vue du grand bassin de la ville d'Anvers, prise du haut de la batterie de l'Empereur; Salon de 1836, no794, Vue d'Anvers; Salon de 1844, no757, Vue d'Anvers. In the background of our painting, you can see Notre-Dame Cathedral in Antwerp. In the background are other administrative and defensive buildings, the result of the modernisation of the port under the Empire.
