Very rare editio princeps and only incunabula edition of the commentary on the Gospel of Luke by Saint Ambrose (339-397), bishop of Milan, one of the four fathers of the Western Church. Anton Sorg (1430?-1493), who worked in Augsburg from 1475 until his death, initially worked for the printing works of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Ulrich-et-Sainte-Afre. He owned a paper mill and also worked as an illuminator. This copy has been restored by Wood of London; the wooden sides of the original binding have been preserved (covered in brown morocco), as have two old blank endpapers. Handwritten reference from the Royal Library of Bavaria in Munich: Inc. typ. N°1951 (cancelled for duplication). From the libraries of Richard G. S.
