Charles Arisse Hémard, known as Ariste Hémard, distiller and liqueur-maker (absinthe, syrups, gentian, calvados, rum, quinquina, vermouth, etc.) and politician, has worked at Guerin-Matière et Androt, a distillery founded in Montreuil, since 1840. He took over its management in 1870. He became the owner and gave the distillery its name. He became Mayor of Montreuil. In 1915, after absinthe was banned, he launched the aniseed "Amourette" and merged with Pernod in 1926 to form the company "Établissements Hémard et Pernod Fils".
