AN EARRING WITH WINGED GENIUS - former Kofler-Truniger collection
Roman, 1st–2nd century AD.
Gold and almandine garnet. With double twisted gold wire with beaded gold wire in the middle, decorated with a winged genius or Eros, crowned by a rosette with an almandine garnet set in a wreath of flowers.
Ø 2.4 cm. Total weight 4.3 g.
Slightly dented and corroded.
Provenance:
- Purchased from Archimandrite Nicolas Karam, Beirut, August 9, 1952 (according to index card).
- Collection Ernst and Marthe Kofler-Truniger (1903–1990 & 1918–1999), Lucerne (inv. no. K725B).
- Swiss private collection, Lucerne, acquired from the above in ca. 1974.
- By inheritance in the same Swiss family, Lucerne.
