An elegant man-at-arms half armour in Pisan style dating: about 1580 provenance: Milan, Sharp-edged burgonet of high quality, with skull worked in one piece with a pointed top turned backwards and ribbed in the centre, pointed nape-guard and brim worked with the same plate as the skull. The surface is decorated with engraved vertical bands with several other elements such as helmets, column fragments, musical instruments, busts of armour, birds and shields. With an ornament decorated with leaves, swallow-tailed margin engraved with frames on the nape-guard and brim. Roped cords. The helmet complete with the rare antique movable cheekpieces, well modelled, with a central rosette and decorated with frames en suite with the burgonet. The skull with an old exfoliation on the left side, a small repairing at the brim margin and a small missing part of material at the rear side. Together with a fine bust of armour, with the elements all of the same period and with “Pisan Style” decorations. Gorget with two-plate Pisan-style bands with well-preserved and engraved interlacing frames. Breastplate and backplate worked en suite with each other, with the typical ornament featuring two circled portraying characters looking at each other, the Pisan-style bands with high-quality engravings featuring various characters, architectural elements and floral motifs. Neckline and gussets with thick engraved roped cords. Richly engraved pauldrons, also these worked en suite with each other, with roundels featuring portraits and cartouches with characters. Some repaired cracks. Brassards decorated in the Pisan style but one slightly different than the other. Single-plate tassels, well worked to look like overlapping scales, the two pieces decorated en suite with each other. The helmet with iron rivets and brass rosette. Brassards, breastplate and neck-collar with brass rivets. Tassels with iron rivets. Very elegant piece with great visual impact. On a mannequin. height as shown circa 105 cm.
