An exceptional pair of percussion pistols by Arana
dating: 1845
provenance: Spain, Smoothbore, two-stage, 17 mm cal. barrels made of fine damask; octagonal and marked in gold among floral decorations 'à Espiral por Arana en Eibar 1845' at the first part, the base carved with engraved curls on a gilded ground, a band carved with floral motifs on a gilded ground featuring a frame featuring notched rings, then round at the second part, with gold monogram 'L. F.A.' enclosed in a cartouche, moulded nozzle decorated with the same frame. Long tangs decorated en suite and with broad sight. Backward spring locks finely engraved with leaves on gilt ground, cocks carved and pierced as a lion resting on a small dragon. Briarwood, three-quarter stocks with floral and geometrically carved butts, steel mounts decorated with the same beautiful motifs; browned triggers, butt-plates with suspension ring.
