An extraordinary and rare marble Buddhist Luohan head. The typology and the expression of the face recall the earthenware Liao Dynasty figures found next to Jizhou in the province of Hebei, in the north of China, not far from Beijing. This sculpture is extremely rare because of the stone used, imported for sure, different from the Sand stone normally used for the works of the Buddhist Temples or those in the caves of Maijishan and Longmen in the north-west of China. Earthenware Luohan examples are preserved in many western museums: Metropolitan in New York, Guimet in Paris or British in London. h cm 31 La tipologia e l'espressione del volto richiamano fortemente le figure in terracotta risalenti alla Dinastia Liao ritrovate vicino a Jizhou nella provincia di Hebei a nord della Cina non distante da Pechino. Questa scultura risulta essere molto rara per il tipo di pietra, sicuramente importata, differente dalla Sand stone usata normalmente per le opere dei Templi Buddisti o quelle ad alto rilievo nelle grotte di Maijishan e di Longmen a Nord Ovest della Cina.
