An imposing sword dating: about 1580 provenance: Saxony, Large, straight, double-edged blade with central fuller, at the first part with small star-shaped marks followed by the Wolf of Passau. Fine iron hilt with wide, straight quillons decorated with knots with waves and square segments and with large spheres at the ends shaped as buds. Side ring with three inner loop guards decorated en suite, oblique ring-guard at the back side and thumb ring. Large pommel worked en suite with the spheres of the hilt. Wooden grip covered with ray skin, the upper part narrowed with an iron ring at the girdle. The ring nut worked like the base of the pommel. Beautiful sword for fighting on foot at the barrier. length 114.5 cm.
