AN OTTOMAN OR INDO-PERSIAN MAIL AND PLATE ARMOUR, KRUG, WITH CALLIGRAPHIC INSCRIPTIONS Ottoman Turkey, Ca. 18th century AD. A finely crafted Ottoman or Indo-Persian char-aina ("four mirrors") cuirass, or Krug, consists of four intricately inscribed steel plates connected by iron chainmail, offering both flexibility and robust protection. The front plate is adorned with a raised circular medallion featuring elegantly engraved Qur’anic inscriptions, surrounded by intricate calligraphic bands and geometric motifs. The additional plates, similarly etched with religious invocations and floral arabesques, demonstrate the high level of craftsmanship associated with the elite Islamic armor of the period.
