An unusual Gothic double-handled mortar
Of cylindrical form with a protruding rim. Resting on four paw feet crowned with mascarons from which issue two shorter and two longer angular ribs. With two angular, octagonally faceted handles.
H 22.2, D 22.2 cm, weight c. 10.9 kg.
The interior and exterior surfaces with some localised verdigris, minor scratches and dents.
Attributed to Nuremberg, 1st half 15th C.
Thickly cast golden brown bronze with dark brown patina.
