ANATOLIAN CHALCOLITHIC TROY TYPE AMPHORA.
Ca. 2nd Millennium BC
A large amphora with a tall flaring neck, broad shoulder, and inverted pear-shaped body tapering to a narrow flat base. The upper shoulder is fitted with hour loop handles. The upper body is decorated in red-brown slip with dense bands of geometric ornament, including interlocking lozenges, hatched triangles, and radiating strokes arranged in friezes around the neck and shoulder, with further cross-hatched motifs encircling the mid-body and painted chevron elements within the neck interior.

Provenance: Ex-private collection of William Dale, a career diplomat stationed in Turkey in the early 1960`s, who acquired a vast collection of Greek, Roman and Near-Eastern treasures during his tenure.
