ANATOLIAN TERRACOTTA FEMALE IDOL
Ca. 800 BC.
A terracotta idol with a columnar body, rising to a narrow neck encircled by layered bands and surmounted by an angular head with stylised bird-like features, including a prominent projecting beak and applied circular eyes. Striated hair frames the head and falls along the sides. Both arms are bent sharply at the elbows, the hands placed beneath the breasts. Below, a narrow belt decorated with diagonal incisions encircles the waist, while broad cuffs with parallel linear ornamentation accent the wrists.
