ANATOLIAN TERRACOTTA STANDING MOTHER GODDESS STATUE
Ca. 1500 BC.
A terracotta standing female figure with elongated proportions and a flat reverse, modelled with the feet placed side by side and the arms set apart from the body, the hands resting on the hips. The abdomen and thighs are decorated with circular appliqués with incised coiled bands. A broad collar with evenly spaced circular impressions spans the upper torso, and large disc-shaped earrings adorn the earlobes. The figure wears a tall headdress, and the face is rendered in an abstract manner with a prominent nose.
