OLD AND FINE KILIM SENNEH RUG (North-West Persia, late 20th century) Midnight blue field with Herati motifs: a mosaic of palmettes of flowers surrounded by stylised diamond-shaped foliage in polychrome, adorned with a central ivory medallion in the shape of a lozenge, inlaid with semis of stylised flower buds and bulbs. Three borders, the main one saffron yellow, decorated with rows of stylised botehs (a symbol of genesis and fertility, the seed motif found in cashmere shawls). Needlework, tapestry technique, with wool threads on cotton backing. H. 193 x W. 138 cm. (Some oxidation and natural wear, maintenance restorations, carpet has been cleaned, lined carpet (new lining))
