André BILLEN (1921-1998) Congo, oil on panel, signed and dated 56 lower left, fading at bottom, +- 58 x 81 cm. Note: Painter and engraver trained at La Cambre where he was a pupil of the famous Joris Minne from 1940 to 1943. Active in the world of journalism and advertising in Brussels from 1945 to 1952, he then worked at the Geographical Institute in Leopoldville, where he also taught drawing at the Athénée Royale and art history. He returned to Belgium in 1960 and became professor and then director of the Brussels School of Art and Advertising.
