André Boisson began his career as an apprentice with Reynaud Levieux in 1662, before going to Rome together from 1667 to 1676. His sister Anne Boisson married the painter Gilles Garcin in 1667.
André Boisson was very active in painting altarpieces and easels in Aix (Madeleine church, Saint-Maximin basilica, Saint-Esprit church), Avignon and Toulouse. In 1695, he became a member of the Corps Académique des peintres et sculpteurs d'Aix.
His compositions are highly structured, vividly executed and surprisingly refined in colour.
