André Rozay, born in 1913, was one of the pioneers of the revival of La Borne ceramics. As a young man, André enjoyed free rail travel (thanks to his father, a railway employee) and visited museums, exhibitions and zoos in Paris. There he met the young sculptor François Pompon, whose work he admired. He was particularly fond of Paul Jouve's animal drawings. He trained at the Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Bourges, where he met Jean Lerat.
He arrived in La Borne in 1943 to work with his old friend. After the war, he worked in Alphonse Talbot's studio, which he later took over.
In 1962, together with other ceramists including Yves Mohy and Claudine Monchaussé, he founded the Amicale des Potiers de la Borne, which later became the Association des Potiers de la Borne.
