Angolo del Moro, Marco Mars and Venus. 2nd half of the 16th century. Copper engraving on laid paper. 31.5 x 19 cm. Signed (MA) in the plate upper right. Partially mounted under passepartout and framed under glass. Bartsch/Le Peintre graveur (XVI.206.5). - The mythological lovers Mars and Venus share an intimate moment in a cave, while the winged Cupid gazes thoughtfully at his hands. Venus holds a cloth in her hand, which is partially wrapped around her body, while Mars wears his characteristic helmet and Roman armour. - Trimmed to the image margin. Verso with adhesive residue and discolouration of the paper. Handwritten notes in pencil. Recto minimally stained and discoloured. Overall well-preserved engraving. Copper engraving on laid paper.
