A ROYAL GIFT FROM QUEEN MARIE-AMÉLIE IN 1843 The hair is said to be that of Queen Marie-Amélie, Queen of the French, which is not at all incredible given her proximity to the recipient of this jewel. The bracelet was made for her daughter, Princess Clémentine d'Orléans, on the occasion of her marriage to Prince Auguste of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in 1843. A year later, Marie-Amélie sent the same portrait painted by Mueret after Winterhalter to Queen Victoria. There is a large full-length portrait of Queen Marie-Amélie painted by Winterhalter and dated 1842. This oval miniature, probably painted at the same time, is taken from this magnificent portrait. Marie-Amélie was Marie-Antoinette's niece and was married to her distant cousin Louis-Philippe. She ruled alongside her husband from 1830 to 1848.
