YEARS 1860 RARE "NEGRESSE HABILLÉE" CAMEO BROOCH The oval cameo represents the head of a "négresse" on a three-layer sardonyx. The head is adorned with a hair ornament, an earring and a necklace set with small rose-cut diamonds. Surrounded by fine pearls. Mounted in 18K yellow gold and vermeil. Gross weight: 32.24 g (three small diamonds missing, two tiny hairs on the white edge). Dimensions: 5.4 cm x 4.3 cm. THE ART OF THE DOMED CAMEO The main characteristic of this cameo is that it is domed, which gives it great strength with the modelling of the portrait. The effect is reinforced by the application of the diamond-embellished "jewels" worn by the figure. Traditionally, portraits on this type of cameo are much more static.
