He was the official painter of the House of Savoy and of Popes Gregory XVI, Pius IX and Leo XIII. For over forty years, he also worked for important aristocratic families such as the Chigi, Torlonia, Corsini, Patrizi, Lancellotti and Borghese families, working in churches, basilicas and prestigious buildings in Lazio and Umbria, including the Vatican, the Quirinal Palace, Palazzo Chigi and Villa Grazioli in Castelporziano. He distinguished himself both as a painter and as a set designer, with an artistic education that began at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia and continued in Florence and Milan, where he had the set designer of La Scala, Alessandro Sanquirico, as his teacher. During his career he also worked in Genoa, in the Doria Pamphilj and Pallavicini palaces, and in Paris, where he painted a pavilion for the Universal Exhibition in 1863.
