Lugduni [Lyon], Antonium Gryphiun, 1566. 2 works in 1 vol. in-16 bound in full brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt, gilt fillet and spandrels framing the boards stamped in the centre with a medallion with plant decoration in azure irons, clasps partly missing, gilt edges (period binding). 105 ff, [2] blank ff, 284 pp. This work is divided into two parts, the first of which is an illuminated manuscript, the second a 16th-century printed work.105 vellum pages with 21 lines of handwritten text punctuated by a series of initials decorated in blue, red and gold. A number of illuminated initials are further decorated in marginalia. Throughout the folios, 7 full-page illuminations frame the text in an abundance of foliage with numerous gold areas. The illumination work seems to correspond to English productions of the 15th century. One of the manuscript endpapers reused at the beginning of the work contains some verses taken from the 6th c. Manuscript bookplate of Henry Oxinden on one of the blank endpapers. We believe that this reference corresponds to Henry Oxinden (1609-1670), an English poet and man of letters who had a library of more than 200 volumes at the end of his life before it became part of the library of the lawyer Lee Warly in the 18th century and finally joined the library of Canterbury Cathedral. The second part is a sixteenth-century Lyon printing of the Psalms of Solomon, which was one of the first texts to feature Hebrew printed characters.
