Anta Rupflin (1895 Pasing/Munich - 1987 Augsburg)
Girl reading
Work influenced by Henri Matisse by the painter, who is one of the most important artists of the so-called "lost generation" to have been rediscovered in recent years. Before the I. Before the First World War, Rupflin studied under F. H. Ehmcke at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich, which was also open to women, and then privately under the painters Willi Geiger and Hugo Ernst Schnegg. In 1925, Rupflin travelled to Paris for the first time to attend Amadée Ozenfant's courses. At the same time, he also met Mela Muter there, who became a friend and mentor to Rupflin. Until 1931, she spent several months in Paris working with Mela Muter, whose works, characterised by Fauvism and Cubism, influenced her. Through Muter, she gained an insight into the vibrant modernist art scene in Paris at the time. She painted with intensity and passion and continued to develop over the following 50 years.
