Born in Genoa in 1404 and died in Rome in 1472, Léon-Baptiste Alberti was one of the great humanists of his time, a philosopher, painter, mathematician and architect. His Hecatomphile is a kind of treatise on love and a collection of advice for girls in this field. This part is written in prose and was translated by Antoine Heroet, a 16th-century poet who was close to Marot and who celebrated platonic love in his verse. The second part of the work, entitled Les fleurs de Poesie Françoyse, is a series of verse pieces, some of which were written by François I. A very fine copy. Small shock at the top of the cups.
