Anton Radl (1774 Vienna - 1852 Frankfurt/M.) Mountain landscape Late Romantic, atmospheric landscape with a peasant woman and child crossing a wooden bridge over a rocky stream. The Austrian-German painter received his first artistic training at the Vienna Drawing Academy, and in 1794 he was apprenticed to Johann Gottlieb Prestel in Frankfurt and became his assistant. Study trips took him to the surrounding area, to the Middle Rhine and the Taunus, to northern Germany, the Black Forest and Switzerland, as well as to the Danube. His work focussed on landscapes and vedute in various techniques, which also served as models for graphic views. Oil on canvas; ligature monogram "AR" on the reverse. Labels with provenance Edgar Michahelles, Nonnenstieg 1, Hamburg, verso. 34 cm x 29 cm. Frame. Provenance: from the Michahelles collection, Hamburg, which has grown over generations. Oil on canvas. Monogrammed. Old labels with provenance on the reverse.
