Note: A year after the outbreak of the Civil War, in 1937, mobilised by the Republican government, Clavé found himself on the Aragon front, then a draughtsman with the Armies in Barcelona, where in 1938 he executed the sets for a play by Ramon Vinas. In 1939, having fled Francoism and arrived in Perpignan, France, he exhibited his first works. In the few surviving works from his "Catalan" period, with the exception of advertising and cinema posters, we find the taste for colour and collage that would mark his future work.
