Antonio Francesco PERUZZINI (c.1650-1724)
Christ on the road to Emmaus. Oil on canvas. 75 x 59 cm.
Note: Antonio Francesco Peruzzini was born in Ancona, the son of the painter Domenico. He painted two landscapes depicting storms in Loreto, a work influenced by Salvator Rosa, but also by Dutch landscape painters popular in Italy, in the style of Matthieu van Plattenberg and Mulier. His works often include capricci, similar to those of Marco Ricci.
Before 1687, Peruzzini travelled between Venice, Bologna, Modena, Parma, Casale Monferrato and Turin. He stayed in Bologna from 1682 to 1686, where he worked in collaboration with Sebastiano Ricci and Giovanni Antonio Burrini. In 1703, he moved to Tuscany under the patronage of Ferdinand de' Medici and collaborated with Alessandro Magnasco, painting landscapes for the painter known for his small figures. He followed Magnasco to Milan in 1712-1713 and continued his collaboration until 1720-1725.
