CROUCHING APHRODITE IN MARBLE
Roman art, late 1st-early 2nd century AD, from a 2nd century BC Greek original attributed to Doidalsas of Bithynia
Female sculpture in the round, known as the "Squatting Aphrodite" or "Venus of Vienna", depicting the nude goddess in the bath, squatting on her right knee with her torso bent forward. A delicate lock of hair remains on her shoulder, while her left thigh bears the traces of her arms, which have now disappeared and once concealed the goddess's nudity.
Head and arms incomplete. Visible missing parts.
