APULIAN RED FIGURE BELL KRATER DEPICTING AN OFFERING SCENE
Ca. 340 - 300 BC
A red-figure pottery bell krater with a large body, short splayed foot, a flanged mouth and two well-preserved horizontal handles. The krater features traditional patterns, such as the laurel wreath under the lip, pamela motif under the handles, and meander pattern with crosses along the bottom of the body. Side “A” is decorated with a maenad seated on a pile of rocks. She faces a Satyr, holding a large patera out to him with her right hand, and a mirror in her left. Side “B” is decorated with two standing and facing figures representing two old men, who support themselves on two wooden sticks.
