APULIAN XENON WARE KYLIX WITH SOLAR MOTIF. Ca. 320 - 300 BC. A black-glazed kylix with a broad shallow bowl, a straight rim, and a short, concave foot. The interior is decorated with a central solar motif consisting of a circular band enclosing a radiating design with a central dot. Surrounding this motif is a wreath of laurel leaves in applied red-orange pigment, arranged in a continuous band with each leaf connected by a thin, curving stem. The exterior features a similar laurel wreath decoration encircling the bowl. The kylix has a pair of horizontal handles extending outward from the rim, curving slightly upward before terminating in a rounded end. The black glaze covers the entire surface except for the underside of the foot.
