Alban worked as the assistant to a photographer in Cairo. After this apprenticeship, Alban went first to Milan and then to Brussels, where he took portraits. From about 1922 to 1933, he maintained studios in Brussels and Cairo. About 1925, Alban moved to Paris. The studio focused on fashion, portraits and publicity, but also made modernist nudes. His work is in the collections of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Canada.
