HISTORICAL TAPESTRY OF BRUSSELS FROM THE STORY OF CYRUS THE GREAT, CIRCA 1560, WORKSHOP OF JAN VAN TIEGHEM (CITY AND WORKSHOP MARKS), ATTRIBUTED TO MICHEL COXCIE CM357X387 Wool and silk HISTORICAL BRUSSELS TAPESTRY FROM THE STORY OF CYRUS THE GREAT SERIES CIRCA 1560, WORKSHOP OF JAN VAN TIEGHEM (CITY AND WORKSHOP MARKS), ATTRIBUTED TO MICHEL COXCIE depicting Cyrus defeating Spargapis in a military camp, with Spargapis unhorsed to the right, tents and tables set with vases and wine beyond, the central tablet above woven with the inscription; slight natural oxidation of the brown colour, signs of time, minor antique restoration, some restoration on the side chevrons It bears the inscription: ASPERGAPISES GULAE INDULGENS A CYRUS NOCTE OPPRIMITUR (Spargapis indulging in the throat is defeated at night by Cyrus).
