Lot no. 162
ARCHAEOLOGY. Axe with socket. France, Late Bronze Age (c. 1000-800 BC).
Miniature bronze axe with a ring, Armorican type. Old label cut in half and glued on, inscribed "12" in ink.
8 cm.
Provenance: former Anjou collection, probably that of Julien Bessonneau (1842-1916), judging by a similar axe bearing the other (?) half of the label with "12 Paris" inscribed in ink, which was part of the public sale of the Leveilley-Bessonneau collection by the Chauviré Courant firm, 26-27 May 2025, lot 75 (copy on the right of the photo). On this collection, see also the exhibition catalogue Donation Liliane et Jean-Pierre Léveilley, Musées d'Angers, 2024.
