Architecture - Amsterdam School
Versteegh en De Vries (V.E.V.) Architectenbureau. Extensive collection of approx. 130 original designs for various architectural projects by the Dutch architectural firm Versteegh en De Vries. 1919-1927. predominantly pencil or ink, partly coloured or watercoloured, each on delicate paper, mostly on tracing paper. Mostly folded (some several times), some large format. Loosely inserted in mod. Linen case (58 x 29.5 cm) with gilt-stamped label.
With numerous large-format and detailed design drawings of building projects (villas, public buildings, commercial buildings and factories, urban development projects) in The Hague and Voorburg, some of which still exist today. - The years 1919-1922 were the most active period for the architectural firm, and most of the most prestigious designs in the collection date from this period. - Together with: Brochure with notes on the architectural firm's activities and numerous photographs showing buildings that still exist, as well as images of the plans included in this collection. - Particularly interesting here are some urban planning projects such as the planning of public squares (a multi-folded chromolithographed poster for the project of a modernist redesign of a square in Voorburg with view and designs), designs for a garden district as well as some large housing estates and the urban planning of entire streets with houses in the modernist style. - Slightly browned due to paper, somewhat brittle in places, with small tears and marginal tears as well as slightly creased. Overall well-preserved and extremely comprehensive architectural collection.
