The treatise on the symptoms, causes and cure of acute and chronic diseases by Aretaeus of Cappadocia (Aretæus in Latin) is the only surviving work by this first-century Anatolian physician.
A very fine copy bound for the Strasbourg Hellenist Richard Brunck (1729-1803), with his name gilt on the tail.
The name of the bookseller and bibliographer Antoine-Augustin Renouard (1765-1853) is inscribed in pen on the engraved pedestal adorning the title.
