ARGENTINA - ARGENTINA Republic. Gold medal, the Argentine pavilion at the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris, by J.-B. Daniel-Dupuis 1889, Paris. Av. In front of a perspective view of Paris with the Eiffel Tower, the French Republic, with a staff surmounted by a rooster receives Argentina, draped, holding a shield with the arms of the Argentine Republic; signature DANIEL-DVPVIS. Rv. REPUBLICA ARGENTINA / EXPOSICION UNIVERSAL DE PARIS 1889 / MEDALLA CONMEMORATIVA in three lines in the exergue with signature DANIEL-DVPVIS. In the field, view of the Argentine pavilion. Minor rubbing in the fields and on the listels. Only 26 examples struck in gold! Superb. The Argentine pavilion at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris covered an area of 1,600 m2 and was designed by Albert Ballu. Constructed of cast iron, it could be dismantled and cost 1.2 million gold francs. Albert Ballu, who knew J.-B. Daniel-Dupuis from the medallion he had made for his father, Théodore Ballu, for the family mausoleum in Père-Lachaise, commissioned Daniel-Dupuis to make decorations (including medallions of the Argentine provinces for 3,500 francs) and a commemorative medal (3,000 francs). The latter was produced in gold (6 medals were struck at a cost of 350 francs for senior French government officials, including the President of the Republic, the President of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the three main people in charge of the exhibition, Messrs Berger, Alphand and Millas, plus 20 new medals struck at Buenos-Aires' request, making a total of 26), silver (at 30 francs) and 2,250 bronze medals (at 5 francs) [Source: https://pabellonarg.com/2021/03/28/daniel-dupuis-medallones-y-medalla/].
